Explore your family history through genealogy workshops offered throughout the day at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. Each session focuses on a different aspect of genealogical research—from getting started and using modern tools to preserving your personal history.

Space is limited for each workshop, and registration is required. You’re welcome to register for one or more sessions, depending on your interest and availability.

Children’s Painting Workshop

Commemorate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through a guided paint session hosted by renowned local artist Willie Williams, Jr. of Studio 2500. Pre-drawn canvas & paint will be provided.

Suitable for ages 5 and up.

Be part of making King Day meaningful for thousands of visitors at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. Volunteers help create a welcoming, well-organized experience by supporting event setup, activities, and breakdown throughout the day. Individuals and groups are welcome.

Minimum service: 2 hours | Morning & afternoon shifts available
