Collection Spotlights

Our Collection Spotlights offer a closer look at rarely displayed artifacts, images, and stories that connect directly to key moments in history. These temporary displays are featured throughout the museum and highlight timely themes that deepen our understanding of the past and its impact on the present.

Voting Rights Act: 60th Anniversary

July 10th - August 25th
This special spotlight marks the 60th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, a landmark victory in the fight for civil rights. Through photographs, artifacts, and firsthand accounts, this temporary display will honor the struggle for voting equality and the ongoing fight to protect that right today.

The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute will reopen on May 27, 2026 at noon.

This brief delayed opening will allow staff and vendors time to complete final preparations for safe public access to the building. Thank you again for your patience, support, and understanding throughout this process. We look forward to welcoming visitors back today.
