Washington & DuBois: A Matter of Conscience

February 25, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

In partnership with Vulcan Park & Museum and Birmingham Children’s Theatre, and with funding from the Alabama State Council on the Arts, BCRI Presents Washington & DuBois: A Matter of Conscience. Playwright Lee Shackelford’s dramatic dialogue recounts the philosophies of the two early civil rights activists, Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. DuBois. Disagreements between the two leaders were profound, but they sought a common outcome: securing a better place for Black Americans in U.S. society.

Join Birmingham Civil Rights Institute on Saturday, February 25th in the Community Meeting Room for this free production, followed by a dialogue with the actors and Mr. Barry McNealy, BCRI Historical Content Expert
