Book Talk featuring Paul Kix

As we commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the 1963 Children’s Crusade, BCRI welcomes Paul Kix, author of “You Have to Be Prepared to Die Before You Can Begin to Live: Ten Weeks in Birmingham That Changed America.” From journalist Paul Kix, the riveting story, never before fully told, of the 1963 Birmingham Campaign—ten weeks that would shape the course of the Civil Rights Movement and the future of America.
This event is free and open to the public and will take place inside the BCRI Community Meeting Room (CMR). The author will read and discuss the book and host Q&A session. Signed copies of the book will be available for sale outside the CMR and C-SPAN will record the talk for a later broadcast.
Participants should enter through the BCRI Administration Building on 6th Aveneu to access to the Community Meeting Room for the event.

Venue

The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute will reopen on May 27, 2026 at noon.
