BCRI is a fantastic conversation starter to talk with kids about issues of equality, social justice, privilege and peaceful protest. Understanding the civil rights movement is critical to understanding American history.
School Groups and Chaperones
School group reservations must be made through a K-12 school. If your group consists of 25 people or more, you must book your visit in advance. Click here for fees for students.
Required Number of Chaperones for Groups of Children
BCRI requires that children are in groups with an adult chaperone (includes teachers and parents) at all times. Chaperones should ensure that museum rules are followed during your tour to help us keep BCRI beautiful for all of our visitors. These will be explained at the beginning of your tour.
Grades K-3: 1 chaperone required per every 6 students
Grades 4-12: 1 chaperone required per every 8 students.
Discounts for chaperones apply during the school year. Outside Jefferson County, required chaperones are $10 with additional chaperones at $15. Inside Jefferson County, required chaperones are free, with additional chaperones at $10.
Field trips are visits from school groups during the school year, using the dates of the Birmingham City Schools academic year. Daycares, summer camps, family reunions, and students not touring with a school are subject to the admission fee.
