About The BCRI

The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, part of the Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument and an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, is a cultural and educational research center that promotes a comprehensive understanding for the significance of civil rights developments in Birmingham.

BCRI 30th Anniversary Celebration

Culminating a week of festivities, our commemoration will feature a night of great conversations, performances, reflection and a one-night-only special exhibit highlighting thirty years of archival acquisitions and exquisite programs. Take part in the festivities as we present the 2022 Rev. Fred L. Shuttlesworth Human Rights Award and other honors.

Emmett Till & Mamie Till-Mobley: Let the World See

Opening November 19, 2022 Experience an immersive exhibit that tells Emmett and Till-Mobley's story in straightforward terms with quotes, first-hand accounts, historic photos, videos and interactives that inform and inspire crucial conversations.
