The Board of Directors and staff of the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute (BCRI) are pleased to announce the opening of its newest exhibition Places, Faces and Spaces: Works by Dr. Arthur L. Bacon on May 15, 2008.  An opening reception, featuring the artist, is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.  The exhibition and reception are both free and sponsored in collaboration with The Birmingham Chapter of The Links, Incorporated.  Bacon's works are a series of acrylic paintings and drawings depicting people, places and things of the rural South and inner city, particularly within the context of the lives of African Americans.  The exhibition will run through June 22, 2008 in the Odessa Woolfolk Gallery.
 
Art Bacon is a prize-winning artist who has exhibited his works in many group and one man shows in such places as Berkeley, California, New York, Atlanta, Birmingham, Miami, Washington D.C. and many other venues.  His work can also be found in the private collections of Bill and Camille Cosby, Hank Aaron, Eunice Johnson, David C, Driskell, Bill Harvey and Drs. Eunice and Henry Ponder.  Bacon is on a one-year sabbatical from his position as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Talladega College.
