Joe Schwartz, born in 1913, is a socially concerned photographer and writer.  Having grown up poor in heterogeneous tenement communities in Brooklyn and Los Angeles, he has long understood life's hardships firsthand.  Gettin' Along celebrates Schwartz' compassionate view of his surroundings. 

My eyes and my camera are constantly aimed towards the activities of folks in an inter-racial mix.  I've been crusading with the idea that most people are naturally cooperative, especially when given favorable conditions.
