Can you imagine going to jail at the age of nine and being locked away from your parents for five days? Would you like to meet a woman who was in the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church when it was bombed? What about the man responsible for driving Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. around the city during his visits to Birmingham?
These stories and many others come to life at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute through our Speaker's Bureau and Outreach Programs. Our speakers are interested in sharing their knowledge of the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, the Civil Rights Movement, Urban Affairs, the African Diaspora, African and African-American history and culture and other topics. Civil Rights Movement Foot Soldiers share about their experiences during the 1960's struggle for equality.
If you are interested in scheduling a member of the BCRI Speaker's Bureau or another Outreach Program, contact Sylvea Hollis at (205) 328-9696, ext 246.
